Which juicers does Sprout sell? Sprout is primarily focused on cold-press juicers that can squeeze juice from wheatgrass along with other fresh, tasty fruit and vegies. The market is overloaded with different brands and types of juicers these days. Sprout has tested and used a number of juice machines and has selected a range to suit every budget. We believe that they are the best available in Australia for their purpose. All products on the range are manufactured and distributed by reputable and well established companies and you can rest assured that all after-sales service will be of a high and professional quality. The great thing about juicers that juice wheatgrass is that most of them generally can extract juice from most other fruits and vegetables, as well as the fact that they are cold press juicers and do the least damage to nutrients and enzymes (refer to centrifugal vs slow turning). Sprout's Juicer Range:
What is the best juicer for me? When I first began the hunt for a wheatgrass juicer I didn’t have a clue what I was looking for. After a long period of time I have tested a large number of juicers and decided against a few because they did not meet one or more of the criteria. Every juicer is different and there is not one that I have found that fills every criteria perfectly. I suggest that you should think of the following considerations while you’re deciding on which juicer to choose to best fulfil your juicing needs – for wheatgrass and other produce. Versatility – what else does this machine do?
Simple to use and clean - convenience and easy
Budget considerations - what's my price point?
Quality really counts here – beware of "el-cheapo's" I have personally made mistakes. Generally there is a good reason for a machine to be cheap. For a machine to obtain juice from wheatgrass and other fruits and vegies, it takes a lot of force and crushing power and therefore a very strong machine is required. For example, to juice a carrot an auger has to pulverise and crush it through a superfine sieve and keep on doing so year after year. All of the parts and the motor need to be super strong. Superior quality usually costs more. When buying a juicer, this is a product where quality is an important issue. Centrifugal and Masticating vs Slow-Turning/Cold-Press Juicers There are generally three different categories of juicers. Centrifugal: Probably the most common, these juicers grind the fruit and vegetables by pushing them against a strainer at a very high speed. The heat and the static electricity destroys a large percentage of the valuable nutrients and enzymes. They also cause oxidation to occur more rapidly and this will effect the quality and freshness of the juice (ie. it will not last as long). Brands are usually the typical Breville or Sunbeam varieties (amongst others). Centrifugal Juicers are NOT suitable for wheatgrass. Masticating: Is a little slower than centrifugal juicers but still quite fast. These types of juicers chew the pulp and then push it through a sieve. This method also destroys a lot of the nutrients and enzymes and is also not suitable for wheatgrass. Slow Turning/Cold Press: These machines turn at a much slower speed and are by far superior when it comes to retaining as many nutrients and enzymes as possible in your juice. They can be slower to juice but can do basically everything that a centrifugal and masticating juicer can do and more. They are generally very versatile machines and will not only juice, but will create nut butters, desserts, soups and babyfoods, pastas, hummus, as well as extracting juice from wheatgrass. Independant CHOICE Magazine (an Australian Consumer Advocacy Organisation) underook a comparison of juicers in October 2007. The basis of the report was around Centrifugal vs Cold-Press juicers and included the Greenpower Hippocrates and Oscar Vitalmax 900. You can view the full report here. Manual or Electric This is a personal choice and usually made due to budgetary constraints or an uncertainty as you whether or not you will continue to juice or use the juicer as often as you have promised yourself to. While juicing is a lifestyly choice, the last thing you want is an expensive white elephant sitting in your cupboard! However, generally the electric machines are a lot easier to use, a lot quicker and extract more juice. The Angel for example, may be at the top of the price range but when you juice on a daily basis or even weekly basis, then the 30% more juice ir extracts - which really equates to 30% less ingredients being required to produce the same amount of juice - can really add up to massive savings on your produce bill. Imagine spending 30% less on your weekly fruit and vegie bill. The machine will pay for itself in no time! When it comes to cleaning the juicers, both styles are pretty similar. Manual juicers generally don’t have the same features as electric machines and don’t juice as big a variety of fruits and vegies Manual Juicers however, are ideal space savers and great for travellers. Comparing Sprout’s Juicer Range! Sprout has chosen a range of Juicers to suit nearly all budgets and needs. From the best juicer on the market, to the juicer best for first time users, there should be a juicer that suits your needs. Refer to the Juicer Comparison Chart to see which juicer would best suit your needs. Please refer to Electric Juicers and Manual Juicers for more detailed information about the wheatgrass juicers that we recommend. Sprout is more than happy to provide advice via the phone or email and please remember that Sprout also offers a Price Match service Sprout prides itself on honesty and integrity and has been in business since 2005.
